Three documents by Ted Marr pertinent to the Killen ancestry

Below are excerpts from three documents by Ted Marr on the Killen family, particularly on his line which diverges from mine, I am descended from William Dool Killen and he is descended from his brother Edward Killen. I have given the url of the original documents but they are still hard to find and may be removed so the excepts are links to the full body of a local copy. The fourth document is an email from Ted Marr to me.

Ted Marr also gave me an image of a full Killen-family tree but it contains entries for living relatives so I will only share it with anyone with whom I share an ancestor.

Re: Robert "Captain Justice" Killen, Kent County, Delaware

I'm interested, too, in finding out about this Robert Killen. Like Valda, I do not know where the "Captain Justice" comes from, though I have seen this nickname in a Rootsweb entry or maybe a couple. He was, according to various family history records posted here and there, the father of William Killen (b. 1722), the first Chancellor of the State of Delaware. It seems that Robert and William, father and son, emigrated to the American colonies in the first half of the 18th century: by 1759 William was teaching law in Delaware, and his father died in that Colony.

KILLEN Family of Carnmoney & Ballymena (and the New World) - NIR-ANTRIM - Rootsweb.Com.html

Let me explain a little of the background of the KILLEN & related families of, first, Carnmoney & nearby, later Ballymena, & then all over the world: The earliest of my known ancestors was Revd Edward BRICE of Broadisland (Ballycarry), apparently the first Presbyterian Minister to go to Ireland at the time of the Plantation. One of his descendants, Edward BRYCE, (a great great grandson, I believe) was baptised on 22 September 1710 at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church. On or about 29 January 1739 this Edward Bryce married Mary KIRKPATRICK, also at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church. These Kirkpatricks were i believe a long established Carnmoney Presbyterian family. Edward Bryce and Mary Kirkpatrick had a daughter Blanche BRICE who was born, it seems, in November 1739 at Carnmoney or nearby in Belfast. She probably had a brother John Brice, born around 1741, and I expect other siblings. In the early 1760s or thereabouts Blanche Brice married James KILLEN, a tenant farmer on the face of the Cavehill near the present Greencastle, who was born to an old Irish family in the Lecale area (Co. Down) probably around 1730.

Re Killen, Samuel, Andrew, J - Genealogy.com.html

I am descended from James Killen and Blanche Brice of Cave Hill/Carnmoney, through their son John Killen and his wife Martha Dool, who after they were married lived and raised their family at Ballymena/Glenwherry. Their family and descendants included a large number of quite well known Killens, including several prominent Presbyterian Ministers (it was almost the family business!) such as Revd William Dool Killen, his brother Revd James Millar Killen of Comber, and their nephew Revd Thomas Young Killen of Duncairn Congregation, Belfast.

I am (like you Andrew) part of a branch of this family which emigrated to Australia during the mid and late 19th century, including Edward Killen & his children, among whom was my great grandfather Eddie Killen. A number of others also emigrated to Australia, as well as their Young, Ekin, Moore, Magill, etc. relatives mainly from Antrim, but also from Tyrone, Down & Derry. Many others in my branch of the Killen family emigrated at around the same time to the US, Canada & New Zealand, as well as to Great Britain, and so we are spread all over th world. I have for some time been documenting the family history and its diaspora, and have made some good progress, the fruits of which you can see in my Rootsweb file:

Thank you for your email. I am always very grateful for the opportunity to add to my records, and more importantly to correct the mistakes which are contained in the records that I have had access to, and which perpetuate themselves until such time as someone with more detailed knowledge can correct them.

I see that you raise with your family members some likely mistakes as to names, date of death, etc. I would love to get detail on what is wrong so that I can update my records.

I attach (which I hope you can read) a chart of the descendants of your great great grandfather Revd William Dool Killen, who was the brother of my great great great grandfather Edward Killen of Ballymena. Those two brothers married two sisters (Annie and Mary Young) and so all their descendants are doubly related. As you may be able to see from the chart, various descendants of Revd W D Killen emigrated to Australia, where some of them (that is some of the Australian branch) married members of the Australian branch of the Edward Killen family (and of other Killen-related lines in Australia). So we are all very connected over the generations.

You will also see that I actually had your name in my records. But under the Rootsweb/Ancestry.com privacy protocols your name is automatically hidden.

I would be very pleased if, referring to this chart, you can give me any corrections that you think should be mdd, as well as additional information if you think it should be included in my data base.

Finally, I would like to know where you and your family live. I have no information on where your branch were/went since the generation of your grandfather.
